Working With Holiday Road Travel: Your Questions Answered
Planning a meaningful trip takes more than choosing a destination. These answers explain how I work, who I help, and how we get from an initial idea to a well-organized journey.

What does Holiday Road Travel specialize in?
Holiday Road Travel specializes in guided river cruises and immersive journeys, with a focus on Vietnam, Cambodia, and Europe. My work includes European river cruises, Mekong River cruises, guided Vietnam travel, and small-ship and expedition cruising. I also consider other vacation styles when they are a good fit.
Who is your travel planning service best suited for?
I work best with travelers who want personal guidance, a clear process, and thoughtfully chosen options. You may already know where you want to go, or simply know that you want help making the right decisions. Our first conversation is an opportunity to discuss what matters to you and whether my approach matches your expectations.
Who will plan my trip?
You’ll work with me, Dave Sobczak. I personally oversee the trips I plan. I am a Certified Travel Associate (CTA) and an ASTA Verified Travel Advisor (VTA). Holiday Road Travel is an independent travel advisory affiliated with Envoyage, formerly Liberty Travel. Learn more about my background and approach.
Why use a travel advisor when I can book online?
Online booking can give you plenty of choices. My role is to help you evaluate those choices in the context of your whole trip. A cruise, hotel, or tour can look appealing on its own yet be a poor match for your preferred pace or the surrounding itinerary. I help narrow the options and explain the tradeoffs so your decisions have a clear purpose.
How does the planning process work?
We begin with a short phone or video conversation. If we’re a good fit, we discuss the planning package and next steps. A more detailed planning discussion helps establish your preferences, followed by research, recommendations, and adjustments. Once you select your trip, the process moves into booking and preparation. See how I work.
Do you charge travel planning fees?
I offer planning packages. During our introductory conversation, we’ll discuss your trip, the planning services that fit your needs, and the associated fees. That conversation is the best place to understand the scope of the service for the journey you’re considering.
What should I have ready for our first conversation?
Bring your possible travel dates, approximate trip length, number of travelers, and a comfortable spending range. Share any destinations or experiences that interest you, along with things you would rather avoid. You do not need a finished itinerary. Even a few examples of trips you have enjoyed can help explain the experience you want.
Do you help travelers while they are away?
Yes. I stay involved through travel and can help when questions or changes arise. As part of trip preparation, we discuss how to seek assistance during your journey. If a situation needs an immediate response on the ground, your cruise manager, tour representative, or travel provider may also be an important point of contact.
Can you help with travel insurance and trip protection?
Yes. Travel insurance and trip protection are among the services I offer. Bring your questions to the planning discussion. Any decision about coverage should be based on the actual policy wording and the insurer’s explanation of what is included, excluded, and required.
Where can I find advice about the trip I’m considering?
Explore the River Cruise FAQs, Vietnam & Cambodia Travel FAQs, or Mekong River Cruise FAQs. Each guide covers a different part of the planning decision. If you’re still deciding, an introductory conversation is a useful first step.
